Abstract

The rapid increase in production and consumption, triggered by population growth and supported by technological developments, brought environmental pollution and climate change crisis. In order to reduce the devastating effects of this crisis and maintain resource efficiency, necessity to switch to from the long accustomed linear economy understanding to the circular economy model is being widely expressed. With the introduction of the circular economy model, it is predicted that waste and pollution will decrease considerably, products and materials will be kept in use for a longer period of time, and thus nature will gain time to renew itself. Although what needs to be done in the aforementioned change and transformation process has been discussed in the world for the last 25 years, a detailed roadmap has not been determined in Turkey yet. The aim of the study is to raise awareness on the importance of the field, while exemplifying what has been done in the academic field so far about the circular economy model. In this context, as a result of the literature review made in the titles and keywords of books, theses as well as articles, it has been determined that Turkey does not yet sufficiently include the concept of circular economy in the scientific publication category.
