A Criteria Weighting of Travel and Tourism Development Index by Using PSI: A Study on European and Eurasian Countries
Main Article Content
Abstract
The travel and tourism (TveT) sector supports the economic and cultural development of countries by making a significant contribution to the global economy. The Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) is an important index that measures a country's tourism potential and provides an approach that focuses on the sustainability and durability of the travel and tourism sector from 2021 onwards. Although there are studies in this area in the literature, no study has been found that weights the indicators of the index and ranks the countries. Therefore, the aim of this study is to weight the TTDI index indicators using data from 2024 by using the PSI method, to rank the European and Eurasian group of countries according to the weighted matrix and to compare this ranking with the rankings in the TTDI report. As a result, Cultural Resources were identified as the most important indicator and Land and Port Infrastructure as the least important. Moreover, Spain comes first in the country rankings, while Tajikistan comes last. Although the results are similar to the rankings in the report, they differ in some respects.
